4 Reasons Why You Should Buy Sustainable Underwear
Today we will look at the different types of sustainable materials and the reasons as to why you should buy sustainable underwear. Making the conscious decision to choose organic and ethical fashion items is certainly a step in the right direction. You have the power to influence this decision and contribute towards a greener planet. Now that you are all hyped up, let’s get started!

What materials are used in sustainable underwear?

Sustainable underwear is made from organically farmed cotton, bamboo, hemp, and other types of natural and recycled fibres. All this helps reduce the amount of power and water used in the production process, whilst following specific guidelines and regulations that follow eco-friendly measures when growing the fibres.

Let’s take a look at some of the different types of sustainable materials that are commonly used for underwear:

Bamboo

Bamboo is a highly sustainable natural renewable resource with fibres that consist of natural, green and eco-friendly raw materials that can be degraded in the soil and mixed with other materials (such as cotton, hemp, and silk). Bamboo requires no fertiliser and self-regenerates from its own roots, so it doesn’t need to be replanted! Below we can see the MAGIC’s own Bamboo Soft Bra paired with our Comfort Short Bamboo.

Modal

Modal is a sustainable semi-synthetic fibre made from plant-based textile, which comes from sustainably harvested beech trees and is turned into fibre using an environmentally friendly chemical process. The unique properties of Modal, which is considered a luxury textile, are eco-friendly, softness, durable, breathable, and biodegradable. Furthermore, Modal fabric is known to be extra stretchy and 50% more absorbent than cotton! Below we can see the Cozy Crop Top by MAGIC Bodyfashion, made with eco-friendly Modal fabric.

Recycled Polyamide

Recycled Polyamide (Recycled Mesh) is made from pre-consumer material and therefore has multiple benefits in comparison to the traditional Polyamide material. The production process uses less resources (including less water, less energy, and fewer fossil fuels). Below we can see the Recycled Mesh Hipster and the Recycled Mesh Bra by MAGIC Bodyfashion.

In comparison to virgin fiber, Repreve helps to offset the use of petroleum, emitting fewer greenhouse gases and conversing water and energy in the process. If you’d like to read more into the process and types of materials listed above, please have a look at our MAGIC Cares page. MAGIC Cares has grown into an integral part of our organisation, where we place Environmental, Social, and Economic efforts at the forefront of our actions. Our goal remains in place to keep improving, optimizing, and working alongside projects and initiatives that lead towards better lives and a greener future! Moving ahead, let’s take a look at the reasons as to why you should buy sustainable underwear.

Here are the 4 reasons why you should buy sustainable underwear:

1. Sustainable underwear can reduce textile waste
2. Natural fibres are healthier for your body
3. Sustainable underwear is more comfortable
4. Buying sustainable underwear supports ethical companies

1. Sustainable underwear can reduce textile waste

The fast fashion industry has an immense impact on the environmental footprint of our beloved planet. From the landfill impact to power and water consumption, it’s safe to say that sustainable wear has a major influence in the reduction of textile waste. As the consumer, you have the power to make the right choice. Choosing eco-friendly alternatives can support the on-going movement that the fast fashion industry is causing, and in return, making a sustainable purchase can help reduce your very own environmental footprint!

2. Natural fibres are healthier for your body

Choosing natural fibres for underwear is a healthier option. A good phrase to keep in mind is “what’s good for the environment is good for your health”. Most sustainable materials are grown without the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, this essentially contributes towards the health factor and also makes the eco-friendly underwear breathable and more absorbent than cotton. To find out more about the production process of sustainable underwear, read more on the product descriptions for eco-friendly items and what certifications each item follows.

3. Sustainable underwear is more comfortable

If you´ve ever worn eco-friendly underwear, you´ll agree with this. Sustainable underwear is comfortable, breathable, and durable. When grown, sustainable crops are rotated in the soil rather than grown in a single position, this improves the quality of the yield resulting in higher eminence and softer features for the skin.

4. Buying sustainable underwear supports ethical companies

You have the power to make the purchase. Of course, the fast fashion industry may seem convenient or cheaper, but even taking smaller steps towards reducing your environmental footprint is progress. Buying sustainable wear not only contributes towards a greener future, but also places responsibility on all individuals to improve and sustain the direction we are all heading in.

At MAGIC Bodyfashion, we are working together to help contribute towards these efforts through the MAGIC Cares program. By 2025, we aim to have 80% of our collections sustainable. Let's work together to achieve this milestone!
